Licensed California drivers who have received a moving violation citation and been given the option of traffic school by the court.

Check Your Eligibility First

This is the thing to get right before paying. Eligibility for traffic school is decided by the court that issued your citation, not by the school. Courts generally allow it once every 18 months, exclude commercial licence holders, and exclude certain violations entirely.

Your courtesy notice or the court's website will confirm whether you are eligible and by what deadline. Completing a course you were not eligible for does not remove the violation and does not get you a refund.

What It Does

Successfully completing traffic school masks the violation from your public driving record, which usually prevents the point being counted for insurance purposes. It does not dismiss the fine — court fees and the citation amount are separate and still payable.

Not the Same as Drivers Ed

Worth stating clearly, since the two are often confused. Drivers ed is for new drivers earning a permit. Traffic school is for licensed drivers dealing with a citation. If you are learning to drive, this is not the course you want.
