Texas Has Several Separate Routes — This Is the Adult One

Texas offers more drivers education pathways than any other state Coastline serves, and picking the wrong one wastes the fee entirely.

• Adult Drivers Ed — this course. Six hours, for anyone 18 and over applying for a first licence. Also available as an in-person classroom class in some Texas areas.
• Concurrent Teen Drivers Ed — the teen course for ages 14 to 17, taken online alongside professional driving instruction.
• Parent-Taught Drivers Ed — the teen course delivered by a parent or guardian rather than a school.

Anyone aged 18 to 24 in Texas must complete this six-hour course before a licence is issued. Over-25s applying for a first licence are generally not required to take it, though many do to prepare for the written test.

Course Content

Texas traffic law, road signs and signals, right of way, defensive driving, and the alcohol and drug awareness content the state requires. Practice tests follow each section.
