The CITB SMSTS Refresher course is designed for construction site managers who already hold a valid SMSTS certificate and need to renew their qualification before it expires. This two-day course updates delegates on current health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation, helping managers keep their knowledge current and continue meeting their responsibilities on site.

Who Is the SMSTS Refresher Course For?
This course is suitable for delegates who have previously completed the five-day CITB SMSTS course, or a previous SMSTS Refresher, and still hold a valid certificate. Evidence of a current SMSTS certificate must be provided before attending.
The course is ideal for site managers, project managers, construction managers, supervisors and anyone with responsibility for planning, organising, monitoring or controlling construction work.

Course Duration
The CITB SMSTS Refresher course lasts two days. It may be delivered as a two-day block or one day per week over two weeks, depending on course availability.
Assessment and Certification
Delegates are assessed throughout the course by the instructor through participation, group work, exercises and course activities. There is also a final multiple-choice examination at the end of the course.
Successful delegates are awarded the CITB Site Managers Safety Training Refresher Certificate.
Certificate Validity
The SMSTS Refresher certificate is valid for five years. To remain in the scheme, delegates must complete another SMSTS Refresher course before their current certificate expires.
If an SMSTS certificate expires before the refresher course is completed, delegates will usually need to retake the full five-day SMSTS course.
Entry Requirements
Delegates must hold a valid SMSTS certificate and provide evidence of eligibility before attending the course. This course is not suitable for delegates whose SMSTS certificate has already expired.
