They play a valuable role within all industries and contribute to saving lives, reducing occupational health conditions and save businesses money and legal problems. Practitioners will always be required which is why it is an excellent career path to choose. If you are interested in a profitable career in health and safety the NEBOSH Diploma is an excellent starting point.
What will You Learn on the NEBOSH Diploma Course?
If you have decided to take on the NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety you will be rewarded with many new skills and techniques that you will use in their long career. The common skills focused upon are communication and training.
In your career it is very important that you are able to communicate the risks and control measures to everyone within an organisation. You may also have to help train individuals to do their roles safely and therefore both of these skills are essential.
The syllabus is split up into units and there is an exam for each of the units, plus an assignment. This is so you can show that you have understood each block and learned the learning outcomes fully. Some of the topics that are included in the units are:
- Health and safety law, criminal law and civil law
- Organisational and human factors
- Risk control
- Hazardous substances
- Fire and explosion
- Work equipment
- Pollutions and waste management
There are many more topics within the three sections: managing health and safety, hazardous agents in the workplace and workplace and work equipment.
A Qualification to Base Your Career Around
The qualification is excellent and recognised throughout the country. If you are awarded with the NEBOSH National Diploma you will be able to use the GradIOSH designatory letters after you have completed the initial professional development period.
You will be able to provide excellent health and safety advice in line with current legislation and the Health and Safety Executive. There is even more opportunity to grow and develop your career. After two years building a portfolio based upon your skills it’s possible to gain chartered member CMIOSH status. Before this occurs you will need to have an interview with the Privy Council.

You will need to find a learning centre that provides the training and sign up. You can start the training quickly and it is possible for some employers to sponsor your education. You may also wish to work full time while training in which case the NEBOSH Diploma may suit your requirements.
All of the different versions still result in you gaining the same qualification and give you the best start as a health and safety practitioner.
