CITB SSSTS Refresher Course in Waterloo, London

The SSSTS Refresher course brings your health and safety knowledge up to date, as well as giving you a thorough overview of the legislative changes and their impact in the workplace. It builds on the material in the original course.

The course is endorsed by Build UK as the standard training for all supervisors working on Build UK sites and provides an understanding of health, safety, welfare and environmental issues. It highlights legal responsibilities and the need to promote health and safety to supervise effectively.

The CITB SSSTS Refresher course is intended for those who have a current SSSTS certificate. It provides supervisors with an update of health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation, as well as their legal responsibilities relevant to their work activities. It provides you with an update on the latest health and safety legislation and best practice methods for the current site safety regulations.

The SSSTS Refresher course is for you if you have previously passed the Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS). The SSSTS Refresher course gives you an update on the health, safety, welfare and environmental issues on a construction site.

SSSTS Refresher Course Delivered in a Traditional Classroom Setting

The 1 day SSSTS Refresher course is delivered in Waterloo, London, SE1 8UJ by an expert trainer. The learning materials are structured and delivered in a format to get you familiar to the new CITB exam paper and questions.

Course Agenda

This is a highly interactive course taught through case studies, classroom discussion, group work and individual or group presentations. You will need to do some self-study outside the course.

  • The Health and Safety at Work Act
  • Specific site issues that challenge supervisors on a daily basis
  • Effective toolbox talks
  • Supervision of occupational health
  • Behavioural safety
  • Theory Test – A number of multiple choice and written questions, currently undertaken in Microsoft Forms to maintain the integrity/confidentiality of the exam process. Delegates must score 80% or more to pass.

At the end of the SSSTS Refresher course you will be have an understanding of:

  • Health and safety law and how it applies to supervisors
  • Your supervisory responsibilities in controlling site safely
  • Risk assessments and the need for method statements
  • Effective site inductions, toolbox talks and method statement briefings
  • Monitoring site activities effectively
  • Timely intervention when bad practice is identified

At the end of the SSSTS Refresher course you will be able to:

  • Implement all updated health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation affecting your supervisory role
  • Implement new guidance and industry best practice affected by changes
  • Fulfil your responsibilities regarding health, safety, welfare and the environment.

Certification

To remain certified in this area, you will need to take another SSSTS refresher course before the expiry date on your certificate, otherwise the full course will need to be retaken.

The following GT700-CS20 will be required for your assessment, most students find it difficult to use the electronic version and maintain the link through zoom. The exercise/assessment is carried out as a toolbox talk and delegates find it easier to use the hard copy this is available from from https://shop.citb.co.uk/ - Please purchase before the course.

Entry Requirements

  • To be able to read, write and understand English to a good level. Please contact us if you have any concerns in this area.
  • If you need to re-sit the test, you must do this within 90 days of the original course date at an additional charge.
  • A valid SSSTS certificate gained in the last five years. You must take this course before your certificate expires.
  • You will need to provide a valid ID for the course, such as a copy of your passport or driving licence.
