This CPCS A09 Forward Tipping Dumper & A31 Ride-on Roller Combined Novice course provides the candidate with a thorough understanding of both the CPCS theory test and the CPCS practical test that comprises the CPCS technical test for categories A31 Ride-on Roller and A09 Forward Tipping Dumper combined. This is suitable for individuals with little or no experience for both elements of the plant.
Who is the Course Suitable For?
This is a dual category CPCS A09 Forward Tipping Dumper & A31 Ride-on Roller Combined Novice course to provide instruction in the correct operation of the Forward Tipping Dumpers and Ride on Roller for operators who will be using such machines on site. It provides training as referred to in the laws relating to work equipment and health and safety, and is accredited by the Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS).

A09
- Role and responsibilities as a plant operator
- Fit and operate ancillary equipment
- Site the machine safely and effectively
- Know which minor adjustments and routine servicing procedures are necessary and be able to carry them out
- Prepare the machine for travelling on the public highway
- Understand the capabilities, purposes and limitations of each machine
- Apply all necessary safety precautions
- Understand how diesel engines work and how various parts of the machine operate
A31
- Role and responsibilities as a plant operator
- Basic components, construction, controls and terminology
- Relevant regulations and legislation
- Pre-use checks
- Manoeuvring in confined spaces
- Configure for travelling on site & compacting duties
- Hazards, underground and overhead services
- Compacting – in straight lines, radii, supported and unsupported edges
- Principles, requirements and techniques of good compaction
- Shut down and securing procedures
- Loading and unloading for transportation
Certification and Assessment
Candidates will take a verbal theory test, and complete a practical assessment. Successful candidates will receive a 2 Year CPCS Category A09 and A31 Red Trained Operator License.
Those with 2-3 years or more experience can add on the NVQ assessment at the same time to progress straight to the 5 Year CPCS Blue Competent Operator card
Pre-requisites to Attend
- You must have a basic understanding and knowledge of current health & safety issues.
- The CITB Operatives Health & Safety touch screen test must be current and in date. (Completed within the last 24 months)
