Course Overview
NEBOSH has collaborated with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to develop this specialist qualification to improve the quality of incident investigations.
Course Units
Unit INV1: Introduction to Incident Investigation
- Understand why incident investigations are carried out and how human and organisational factors contribute to incidents
- Understand how to investigate incidents and confidently carry out an investigation
Unit INV1: Practical Assessment – Approximately 60 Minutes
Application of knowledge by analysis of a theoretical incident investigation – you will be provided with an evidence pack relating to an incident: the application of the PEACE interview model for three separate witness interviews and your ability to draw conclusions from the evidence through action plans to stop their recurrence.
This assessment will take place and be marked during the day of the course, do not worry we will provide you with further information and support during the training.

This qualification is for anyone wanting to carry out an incident investigation effectively, aimed at managers, supervisors, SHE Champions, union representatives and aspiring Health and Safety Practitioners.
Upon completion of this course you will be equipped with the necessary skills to carry out an unaided incident investigation of a non-complex incident, and be awarded a NEBOSH-accredited Certificate.

What Are the Benefits of Taking the NEBOSH Incident Investigation Course?
Students who have completed the NEBOSH National Diploma will hold recognition and respect when it comes to senior health and safety positions, with the use of designatory letters “DipNEBOSH” after their name. All students on successful completion of the course students are eligible to become a member of the NEBOSH Alumni and the option to progress their studies to postgraduate. - The NEBOSH National Diploma is recognised by IOSH, as fulfilling the academic requirements for Chartered Membership (CMIOSH). Which, awards students the title of Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner.

Holders of the NEBOSH National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management Professionals will now be eligible for certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) upon completion of the CRST examination.
For those with greater workplace experience and additional qualifications, the BCRSP is offering a streamlined route to Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP).
- The National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management Professionals is recognised as a Qualified Equivalent Program (QEP) by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), meeting the qualified credential requirement for the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.

Holders of the National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management Professionals are eligible for the Member status (MIIRSM) of the Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM).
The NEBOSH National Diploma is a degree level qualification that is seen throughout the world as a mark of professionalism. It’s a qualification to be proud of.
Is the Course SQA Accredited?
The NEBOSH HSE Introduction to Incident Investigation course does not carry accreditation from SQA Accreditation; instead, it has undergone credit rating by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) Awarding. This qualification is positioned within the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) at SCQF Level 6, earning 1 credit point.
Equivalent to RQF/CQFW Level 3 in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, SCQF Level 6 aligns with comparable standards. Please refer to the “Qualifications Can Cross Boundaries” chart provided by the UK regulators for further details.
Certificates issued for this qualification will prominently display the SCQF logo. Additionally, the SCQF logo, credit, and level information will be included on the unit result notification.
