UKATA Asbestos Awareness for Architects & Designers Course Delivered Online
Introduction
This Asbestos Awareness for Architects & Designers syllabus sets out the guidance issued by UKATA for the provision of asbestos awareness training for architects and designers whose work could foreseeably expose them to asbestos, as defined within the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (CAR 2012).
Asbestos awareness training is not training to work with any forms of asbestos. It is likely to form the first part of training for work with asbestos, but on its own it does not meet the legal requirements laid down under CAR 2012.
Purpose/Scope
The purpose of this UKATA Asbestos Awareness for Architects & Designers training course is to provide learners with an understanding of the potential hazards and risks associated with asbestos-containing materials (ACMs). Additionally, the course is designed to help architects and designers fulfil their legal obligations when working on sites with presumed or known asbestos contamination. It aims to provide them with an understanding of the various types of asbestos, its condition, and visual representations of what may be encountered in building structures and materials.
Occupational Relevance
Architects and designers who may encounter asbestos-containing materials during their regular work activities, particularly in the planning, design, and oversight of building projects. This typically includes, but is not limited to:
Architects involved in the design and renovation of buildings, interior designers working on refurbishments, structural engineers, surveyors assessing building conditions, project managers overseeing construction or demolition projects, landscape architects involved in site development, and any other professionals likely to encounter asbestos-containing materials as defined in CAR 2012 during their architectural and design work.
