Professional Teacher or Community Tutor?
This is italki's defining choice and it materially affects both price and outcome.
Professional teachers hold teaching qualifications and typically work to structured lesson plans. Worth the higher rate if you are a beginner needing a foundation, or working toward a specific examination where technique matters as much as fluency.
Community tutors are fluent or native speakers offering conversation practice at lower rates. Better value once you have a grammatical foundation and mainly need speaking time — which for most intermediate learners is exactly the bottleneck.
A common approach is to start with a professional teacher and shift to community tutors for volume practice once the structure is in place.
Castilian or Latin American Spanish?
Worth deciding before booking. Pronunciation, vocabulary and some grammar differ between Spain and Latin America, and within Latin America between regions. Neither is more correct, but matching your tutor to where you will use the language saves relearning later. Tutors state their origin on their profiles.
